The capability to provide guarantees for network metrics, such as latency, data rate, and reliability will be an important factor for widespread adoption of next generation mobile networks and hence, such metrics play a central role in standards for new wireless communication technologies. However, due to the inherently stochastic nature of mobile communications, any guarantees can only be of statistical nature and are highly dependent on the actual physical environment. To analyze the stochastic behavior, this paper presents a tool chain for measurement, collection, evaluation, and prediction of controlled mobile communications drive test data. We also publish the underlying data set of measurements covering two years’ worth of highway traffic on a 25 km long section comprising 267 198 data points. With electric vehicle penetration steadily increasing and therefore their respective energy requirements, coupled with more intermittent renewable energy comprising the energy mix, new charging innovations are warranted to better facilitate the energy sector’s matching of supply and demand. To carry this out, this requires the cooperation of both sectors – the mobility and the energy sector. Within this study, we extrapolate an innovation ecosystem perspective to the e–mobility and energy space to better understand stakeholder needs and requirements for such mutually–beneficial exchanges. Here, we conducted a stakeholder ecosystem analysis and an expert co–creation workshop. Thus far, our method has provided a comprehensive view of this integrated system and its contributors. Such an analysis can be useful to better guide its implementation.

Vorbei sind die Zeiten, in denen die Erfassung von Straßen, Geschwindigkeitsbeschränkungen oder Adressdaten in der Hand von Behörden oder weniger Unternehmen lag. Die freie Weltkarte OpenStreetMap – eine Alternative zu Google Maps – wird überwiegend durch freiwillige „Internet–Nutzer“ – so genannte Mapper in mühsamer Kleinarbeit erstellt. Forscher von Salzburg Research haben nun „OSMapTuner“, eine einfache, kostenlose und bislang weltweit einzigartige App zur Bearbeitung der OpenStreetMap–Daten für handelsübliche Android–Smartphones und Tablet PCs entwickelt. In the research project ROBxTASK a platform is being developed that allows users to define robotic workflows using the visual programming language Google Blockly. Users can create custom agent code to call the skills of the robotic systems, send/receive messages between agents and thus orchestrate workflows for multiple agents. To meet these requirements, a simple runtime environment (RTE) was developed in Python to enable the integration of various robot infrastructures into an overall architecture. This RTE provides communication between agents, simple service discovery and dispatching, testability without hardware, logging and monitoring of processes, and requires only an MQTT broker as minimal infrastructure. Using an industrial use case, we show how this simple RTE can be used to develop autonomous, self–mediated, collaborative robotic workflows, as well as to integrate human operators into decision–making processes.

In this paper, we present a recently funded European research project, namely WORKPAD, that aims at designing and developing a  innovative software infrastructure (software, models, services, etc.) for supporting collaborative work of human opera tors in emergency/disaster scenarios. In such scenarios, different teams, belonging to different organizations, need to collaborate with one other to reach a common goal, each team member is equipped with handheld devices (PDAs) and communication technologies, and should carry on specific tasks. In such a case we can consider the whole team as carrying on a process, and the different teams (of the different organizations) collaborate through the interleaving of all the different processes (macroprocess). Each team is supported by some back–end centre, and the different centres need to cooperate at an inter–organizational level to reach an effective coordination among teams. Successful implementations of E–Business frequently require additional interaction between elements that extend beyond technology and organizational issues to include environmental (e.g. infrastructure, national culture, national and international payment mechanisms) and consumer factors. These issues were explored in detail at the 2004 conference hosted by Salzburg Research. In response to the theme: ‚Multi–disciplinary solutions to industry & government’s E–business challenges‘ the Conference attracted papers and participants from 15 countries to its refereed research presentations and to its expert panels. The sub–theme in focus for this year was TRUST. This conference has been organised by IFIP Working Group 8.4 (see also http://www.econ.usyd.edu.au/ifip84/). This group focuses on promoting collaboration across disciplines in E–Business Information Systems research and practice. Our intention is to extend the IFIP community’s focus on E–Business to recognize, acknowledge and facilitate research and practice as it crosses the boundaries of IS, organizational, consumer, community, industry and national domains.

Abstract: The complexity and the specific user group of AAL systems make it difficult to provide adequate support. In particular, in AAL projects where business cases should be simulated in order to guarantee a smooth transition of the products and services to the market. Usually, the project consortium distributes or channelizes the responsibilities for system components. On the contrary, the pilot region fit4AAL relies on a professional support team. This paper describes how the workflows and support strategies were established and enhanced due to ticket analysis of a first phase of the field trial. Within this phase of testing the developed training program ILSE, an initial support system was launched consisting of three pillars: local centres, first and second level support. INTRODUCTION: Jump detection via inertial measurement units (IMUs) to monitor athletes is of high interest in many sports (e.g. volleyball , figure skating , snowboarding , ski jumping ). This work aims to develop an algorithm that detects jumps under different skiing conditions: freestyle jumps (big air, jumping hills) and jumps during normal skiing based on IMU data. The IMUs are attached to the skiers’ boots, which allows stable and consistent data recording . METHODS: The algorithm takes the mean of the absolute vertical accelerations and smooths this data using a moving average of the last 25 data points. These smoothed values are rounded to the nearest tenth. Finally, the ranges with zeros are identified as jumps. For the analysis of freestyle jumps, we used data from seven freestyle skiers, while we collected jumps while skiing from two recreational skiers. Social robots are often envisioned as companions for older adults and chronically ill people to support them in everyday life (taking medication, staying physically active, etc.). For all these tasks a high–level of personalization is required, in order to achieve satisfying support as well as a high degree of engagement to motivate people to continue a healthy lifestyle. In the Austrian project RoboGen, we wanted to achieve exactly that. Using an off–the–shelf low–cost robotic platform (Q.bo One), we extended it with a learning agent and designed the interaction in a gender–sensitive way. In this brief communication we present the evaluation results derived from a case study with potential users and semi–structured interviews with experts. Our results show the challenges that come with off–the–shelf robotic platforms and usability (speech recognition, text-to-speech output etc.), also highlight the perception of the potential users as well as how experts rated the concept.

Maximum oxygen uptake (V̇O2max), the gold standard measure of cardiorespira tory fitness (CRF), supports cardiovascular risk assessment and is mainly assessed during maximal spiroergometry. However, for field use, submaximal exercise tests might be appropriate and feasible. There have been no studies attempting a submaximal test protocol involving uphill hiking. This study aimed to develop and validate a 1–km cardio–trekking test (CTT) controlled by heart rate monitoring and Borg’s 6–20 rating of perceived exertion (RPE) scale to predict V̇O2max outdoors. Healthy participants performed a maximal incremental treadmill walking laboratory test and a submaximal 1–km CTT on mountain trails in Austria and Germany, and V̇O2max was assessed with a portable spirometry device. Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C–ITS) technologies will play a significant role in the communication of automated vehicles. So far, vulnerable road users such as cyclists or pedestrians are often excluded from the communication and therefore are not able to actively create awareness for themselves. The Austrian research project Bike2CAV aims at improving bicyclists’ safety via Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (CITS) technologies. The work introduces the implemented prototype of a CITS–enabled helmet consisting of a GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) device (XSens MTi 680G) to determine the current location and two additional IMUs (MetamotionR by Mbientlab) mounted on the left and right hand to recognize turn intentions indicated by hand signals. The overall goal is to evaluate the C–ITS–prototype in real–world situations, especially whether localization accuracies (0.1 m accuracy at 95% confidence) can be achieved.
