A real-time travel information system eases the change to public transport
Vienna-SPIRIT offers an intelligent travel information system for mobile users. General traffic data, schedules and route planning are linked to an integrated system. For instance, in case warnings for traffic jams are announced, Vienna-SPIRIT calculates an alternative route using public transport facilities. GPS (Global Positioning System) technology guides the driver to the next park and ride where users can switch to public transport. Thus, users of Vienna-SPIRIT are able to continue their trips and they will be able to arrive in time at their final destinations.
Vienna-SPIRIT adds to existing travel information system the feature that various means of travel are integrated into a single system. Furthermore, by providing real-time data (rather than scheduled travel information) at the users’ devices the system provides up-to-date and localised services to the users.
