Das Forschungsvorhaben NG-MPPS untersucht neben technisch-wissenschaftlichen Themen auch eine Wirkungsanalyse für die österreichische Wirtschaft. In diesem Zusammenhang werden auch betriebliche Fragestellungen zum Industrial Internet behandelt, darunter die Frage nach dem Einfluss des Industrial Internet of Things auf verschiedene Geschäftsmodelle, nach den daraus resultierenden Chancen und Risiken für Unternehmen, und nach der modellhaften Abbildung und Analyse dieser Zusammenhänge. In our paper we present the intermediate results of a project aiming at the creation of a knowledge-based infrastructure for search and navigation in audiovisual repositories. The approach is based on highly automated media processing and is therefore specifically targeted to historically grown archives (broadcasters, universities, public and corporate media archives, etc.) lacking the time and/or the financial means to manually annotate their digital media assets. In the project a conceptual architecture was developed to meet the requirements of a set of knowledge-intensive user scenarios for the utilization of rich media content in the B2B and B2C areas. Pluggable RDF knowledge components act as a link between a semantic indexing and knowledge-based navigation.

Successful implementations of E-Business frequently require additional interaction between elements that extend beyond technology and organizational issues to include environmental (e.g. infrastructure, national culture, national and international payment mechanisms) and consumer factors. These issues were explored in detail at the 2004 conference hosted by Salzburg Research. In response to the theme: ‘Multi-disciplinary solutions to industry & government’s E-business challenges’ the Conference attracted papers and participants from 15 countries to its refereed research presentations and to its expert panels. The sub-theme in focus for this year was TRUST. This conference has been organised by IFIP Working Group 8.4 (see also http://www.econ.usyd.edu.au/ifip84/). This group focuses on promoting collaboration across disciplines in E-Business Information Systems research and practice. Our intention is to extend the IFIP community’s focus on E-Business to recognize, acknowledge and facilitate research and practice as it crosses the boundaries of IS, organizational, consumer, community, industry and national domains.

Autonomous policy-based network management, as designed by the NETQOS project, requires policy-oriented measurements to provide enhanced end-to-end QoS and efficient resource utilisation. This paper gives an overview on the interaction between the policy management in the NETQOS project and the measurement infrastructure that delivers main input for policy evaluation and validation.

Abstract—This demonstration addresses the subject of highavailability communication by utilizing software-defined networking (SDN) and Fog/Edge-based network function virtualisation (NFV). A particular focus is given on high available communication conceptually inspired by the parallel redundancy protocol (PRP) and high-availability seamless redundancy protocol (HSR). The usage of SDN and Fog/Edge-based NFV allows a more flexible management of high available communication infrastructure. It corresponds to the specific needs of certain applications and providing the necessary deep packet inspection capabilities at the right spot with sufficient performance. The demonstration shows several test cases in context of a highavailability communication enabled SDN in an multi-application environment.

Abstract: In the past, various communication infrastructures and networks, network technologies and topologies, and protocols have been discussed to intelligently interconnect nodes across electric power distribution networks forming a smart grid. Similarly, attempts to esteem bandwidth requirements of smart grid applications under different assumptions were made, by applying models such as the queuing theory. Several simulations were conducted, to study wireline and wireless technologies under heavy load conditions, so to give estimates on how they perform in real smart grid environments. The present paper aims at presenting a conceptual model allowing for the generation and simulation of characteristic communication networks, as part of the communication infrastructure of electric power distribution grids. Feasible input parameters are discussed and fields, where simulation can be used, are presented.

In this paper we describe the objectives and achievements in developing the vision of a “Smart Content Factory”. The “Smart Content Factory” aims at the creation of a knowledge-aware system infrastructure to improve the utilization (re-use and adaptation) of audiovisual content. We will provide an overview of the project objectives and introduce “digital content engineering” as a scientific discipline dealing with concepts, methodologies, techniques and tools for a quantifiable approach towards the vision of smart content, thereby addressing future scenarios of electronic publishing, especially for embedded publishers. We will further take a look at the user and system requirements of the “Smart Content Factory” and their impact on the architecture of the system prototype.
