Working at Salzburg Research
Our colleagues tell us first-hand about their focus and research areas at Salzburg Research:
From business to doctoral student at Salzburg Research: Technology helps to support and facilitate people’s everyday lives. Non-university research produces visible research results for this. Here I can directly apply the knowledge I acquired during my studies and in my dissertation – in a variety of use cases, with different data sources and static as well as machine learning methods. We work in a very varied field of activity in which we also constantly develop ourselves. I particularly appreciate the many women in leadership positions as well as the opportunities for further education and work-life balance.

From business to application-oriented research: I love the elegance of good technical solutions! Technology research fascinates me because I want to see through what was previously unknown or unsolved. We can create something new here! In our research work, we work at the interface between science, business and administration and thus create added value for society. The results can be shared more freely and widely than in industry. The numerous problems offer many opportunities to get involved, a lot of creative freedom and personal responsibility.

From basic research to applied research: I am fascinated by how we can make our lives better and easier with technology. But where there is a lot of light, there can also be a lot of shadow: that’s why it’s important to critically question technology. Non-university research has a strong connection to practice. Here I can apply my education and work with many people from different disciplines – that is very stimulating. I like the creativity that is needed for research, the international reference and the variety in project work. An interesting, varied environment and flexible, independent work!
– Mag.a Dr.in Claudia Luger-Bazinger
From basic research to applied research: Technologies determine our lives, through technological innovations we hope for improvements in our lives. In research, I can look behind the scenes and discover how something works. Mobility in particular is a topic that affects everyone and is facing major changes. I would like to make a contribution to this upcoming mobility turnaround – at Salzburg Research this is possible. Due to the diversity of my projects, there are always new questions and challenges. At Salzburg Research, I appreciate that men and women are treated equally and that there are flexible working hours & home office options.

From internship to head of research group: Even during my studies, I found it exciting to analyse and understand complex relationships. I immediately jumped at the chance to do my internship here. Salzburg Research offers many opportunities for personal development: the company supported me when I wanted to complete a Master’s degree seven years after my FH diploma. Today I am a manager and have been leading a research line for over ten years. I particularly enjoy working with my team. We all get along very well – and that is the most important thing! I also get to “sink my teeth” into one technical challenge or another time and again. I appreciate the good cooperation in the company and the excellent work-life balance.

Internship: My 3-month internship with Salzburg Research equipped me with substantial knowledge and valuable insights in the digital innovation field. As part of the EMJMD Digital Communication Leadership programme, collaboration with experts in the field is an invaluable resource, which this internship has undoubtedly provided. It has enabled me to apply the theoretical knowledge I have garnered in my master’s programme. The productive discussions I’ve had with my tutor have been fundamental in the development of my master thesis. The tasks and work deliverables were intellectually challenging and have profoundly contributed to my professional training and research experience.e.
