Christian Doppler Anniversary Symposium
In addition to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Christian Andreas Doppler is probably the most important Salzburger in the world. The physicist, who was born in Salzburg in 1803, presented his main work at the University of Prague on May 25, 1842, on “Das farbige Licht der Dopplersterne”, in which he described for the first time the principle known as the Doppler Effect.
Christian Doppler’s groundbreaking scientific findings have found numerous fields of application. Today, they are an integral part of everyday life, both in their fundamental importance for science, technology and medicine, as well as in their epistemological-theoretical dimension, which characterizes our modern worldview.
