Digital Idea Management for Urban Tourism Mobility

The solutions to a problem do not always lie within one organization, but they do exist. Salzburg Research answered key questions for a tourism organization about the balance between guests and locals using open innovation.

Challenge

In Salzburg, as in many other popular travel destinations, there are “rush hours”. Tourismus Salzburg GmbH was therefore looking for ideas to maintain Salzburg’s high quality of life and at the same time continue to be perceived as an attractive travel destination. The balance between the interests of guests and residents must be preserved.

Solution

Salzburg Research answered these questions using crowdsourcing on the Open Innovation Salzburg platform. The ideas platform offers a proven process for running ideas competitions from start to finish

With the help of the Open Innovation Platform, Tourismus Salzburg GmbH was able to put its question to those people who are confronted with the challenge of the masses of visitors every day: locals and guests of the city of Salzburg.

For two months, users had the opportunity to upload their creative and innovative ideas to the OI platform. After the submission phase was completed, the ideas were evaluated by the community by comparing two ideas in the so-called “arena”. The ideas were then evaluated by a selected jury of experts according to their originality, feasibility, usefulness and scope of the ideas as well as sustainability, and the winning ideas were selected and awarded.

Benefit

The power of the community opens up new ways for organizations and enables innovative ways into the future. Over 100 qualified ideas submitted showed how informative a different perspective on existing problems can be and how diverse the solutions can be.

The client will develop and implement the best ideas together with the submitters.

Based on this model, further idea campaigns in the areas of tourism, wood, regional development and mobility were successfully carried out. Details on www.openinnovation-salzburg.at

At Open Innovation Salzburg, companies can resort to the knowledge and creativity of a constantly growing and diverse community of stakeholders in order to obtain the optimal solutions for their questions. The community consists of committed people from the region who bring different perspectives and expertise and strive to provide ideas for challenges. The users can share their ideas, receive attractive prices and the opportunity to implement their ideas together with the campaign promoter. The organization, on the other hand, receives customized solutions for its challenges, which have already achieved a high level of acceptance through community and jury evaluations. We are happy to support and look after you in your project to obtain innovative and feasible solutions for your questions by holding an OI ideas competition.
