240 Students were Guests in the Science City

As part of the MINT:labs Science City Itzling initiative, 240 students from different Salzburg schools were invited to ttry out the Science City Itzling. Experiencing the knowledge for tomorrow today – with this aim University of Salzburg and Salzburg invited research into their laboratories. Interested school classes (grades 7 to 10) were able to embark on a journey into the research world of mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology in the MINT:labs Science City Itzling. As extracurricular learning venues, laboratories provide experiments and workshops that complement lessons, foster talent, and provide insights into the day-to-day work of researchers. The day offered the participants the opportunity to get a taste of the university class for the first time, to get to know training opportunities at the location and to discover new occupational fields.

Collaborative Robotics and Methods of Innovation Development

The workshop offer of Salzburg Research consisted of 2 parts: In the IOT laboratory, everything was all about robotics. Here, the young people learned all about the topic of collaborative robotics: In addition, the young people were able to teach the robotic arm what it should do by programming a new task by showing it to the robotic arm. In the innovation laboratory, the students were able to experience methods for innovation development and research up close. How do innovative ideas come about? As part of the Salzburg Research coordinated projects DOIT (EU-H2020, www.DOIT-Europe.net) and SimpliCITY (FFG, https://www.simplicity-project.eu/), an “Internet of Things” (IOT) Idea workshop offered. Here, the participants themselves were able to experience the innovation process – from the idea to the frist prototype of a data-based service. Task was the development of intelligent bicycle accessories, which indicates the bicycle activity of the young people.
