Annual Review and Christmas Campaign 2020
Salzburg Research looks back on a successful 2020 despite the enormously challenging year. As in previous years, we are supporting the Anna-Bertha-Königsegg School in Salzburg with digital communication tools for Christmas.
This special time of 2020 requires a great deal of flexibility from everyone – everything is in motion and at the same time our mobility is severely restricted. With our focus on “Motion Data Intelligence” and the “From Data to Value” approach, we may be the right contact for you!
Everything changes, but our Christmas campaign remains. Because stability is important.
Our Highlights from 2020
Mobility & Smart Region
- Automated Shuttles in Public Transport:
The self-driving Digibus® was further developed and, among other things, equipped with efficient communication optimized for driverless operation. He also completed a demo operation lasting several months. - Targeted Planning of Cycling:
In order to be able to adapt measures to the actual needs of cyclists, data dashboards and a classification of cyclists were created. - Future of E-Mobility:
The required reduction in CO2 emissions requires alternative mobility concepts. Together with partners, we are researching possibilities in the field of light electric vehicles. - Open Innovation Salzburg:
Thanks to the crowd, we recorded future-oriented innovation potential in numerous competitions. - Urban Sustainability:
The “Stadtmacherei Salzburg” app helps to easily integrate sustainability into everyday life. Salzburg Research researches digital incentive instruments and mthods, how people can be encouraged to use such services.
Health & Sports
- From Lab to Field:
Together with partners, we developed a technology-supported exercise program for the 55+ generation. It proved effective in a large field test: “ILSE” keeps the 55+ generation fit - From the laboratory to the slopes:
In the Salzburg COMET Competence Center Digital Motion, innovative sensors have been developed and tested that will make skiing even smarter in the future: when the ski advises you to stop at the hut
Industry & Robotics
- Digital Assistance and Collaborative Robotics:
Supporting people in production in a meaningful way: Assistance systems and robots can relieve monotonous and stressful work and help with the ever-increasing variety of variants. - First-class AI Know-How for Communication Networks:
Salzburg Research with excellent results in an international challenge. - New 5G Research Infrastructure:
In the 5G Exploration Space Salzburg, four specific use cases were implemented and provider-independent monitoring tools developed. - B2B Collaboration:
A European B2B platform for online collaboration was created under the direction of Salzburg Research. It has been tested with over 250 companies and is now open source available. - Recommendations for SMEs:
We have formulated 7 specific recommendations for action on how SMEs can successfully master the digital transformation.

Making a Difference with a Small Donation
In 2020 we will again donate digital aids to the Anna-Bertha-Königsegg-School for children with increased needs, center for inclusive and special education in Salzburg. A small donation that makes a difference.
From Technology to Inclusion
At the request of the school, technical aids were provided this year, which can be used universally: iPads, iTunes vouchers as well as protective covers for iPads and speaking pens.
A personal presentation was unfortunately not possible in this special year 2020. That is why we send our heartfelt Christmas wishes from afar!
