Future Waste Management

3,8 million tons of wastel – 565 kg per inhabitant – are produced in Austria every year, with tendency to rise. Efficient and flexible waste management is essential. In 2008 Salzburg Research realised a project for optimised waste management. Among the results: up to 20 per cent cost saving, consistent use of waste collection vehicles, more effective tours, and compliance with regulations and opening hours. Furthermore Salzburg Research provided a potential analysis for the Salzburg based specialist for real-time online data transfer Shop2Win. The sensors developed by Shop2Win recall the current filling level of waste containers: this enables a precise and up-to-date sheduling of waste removal.
Both projects are supported by the FFG on behalf on the Austrian Federal Ministry for Transportation, Innovation, and Technology ( BMVIT). A follow-up project with enterprises in the State of Salzburg are planned. Therewith efficient waste management at the push of a button will be a daily routine in the future.
